Traveling by train has quickly become a thing of the past. However, it is one of the most incredible ways to travel. Although it may take longer than a plane ride, train trips offer breathtaking views. Around the world, there are luxurious trains with incredible sights to experience:


Rocky Mountaineer’s First Passage to the West

Between Vancouver and Banff lies the breathtaking scenery Rocky Mountains.  The First Passage to the West leaves from the cosmopolitan coastal city of Vancouver and passengers are able to witness the incredible wild waters of Fraser Canyon’s Hell’s Gate. The steep tracks run alongside the gorgeous Thompson River from comfortable and elegant carriages. The train ride also features an overnight stay in the lakeside city of Kamloops as passengers venture to the snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies and finally arrive in beautiful Banff.


Glacier Express

Between two of Switzerland’s most luxurious mountain resorts, Zermatt and St Moritz, lies the Glacier Express. This incredible and beautifully scenic train ride overlooks the Swiss Alps over a day-long trip eastward from Zermatt, the day-long trip. The train ride covers an astounding 91 tunnels and 291 bridges, traveling past southern Switzerland’s alpine meadows and mountain lakes. Passengers will be sure to soak in the beauty of the Oberalp Pass and the astonishing Landwasser Viaduct, which is a six-arch structure towering 200 feet and going deep into a tunnel cut straight into the mountainside


West Highland Line

Scotland is known for it’s incredible and beautiful scenery. The best way to see these breathtaking sights is by traveling by train. The West Highland Line rides along Scotland’s west coast, traveling from the urban landscape of Glasgow to the bold and tranquil glens and lochs. The train passes through the stunning wilderness of Rannoch Moor, then north to Ben Nevis and Fort William. The train then switches direction westward, through the spectacular Glenfinnan Viaduct and finally arriving at the bustling port of Mallaig. 


The Ghan

In the great Outback of Australia lies the world’s most beautiful scenery. The Ghan takes passengers across the vast landscape in an elegant train. As the train cuts through Australia’s fiery red center, from Darwin in the north to Adelaide. Passengers will first witness the wow-worthy topical coast of the Northern Territory via the red-hued rocks of the MacDonnell Ranges and onto the wide plains of South Australia. They will also have the opportunity to go off-train for a boat tour of Nitmiluk Gorge and a chance to explore the desert town of Alice Springs.
